Loretta O'Brien, DC
Loretta O'Brien, Board President, Project Director and Garden Manager - Loretta has been the Garden Manager and a part of the Pacifica Gardens leadership since it broke ground in 2008. She was a member of the original design team in 2006 and a founding member of the advisory board. Loretta has been an avid gardener for most of her life having grown up with annual backyard vegetable gardens. She has urban gardening training in Permaculture Design from S.F. Botanical Gardens and Biointensive Mini-Farming from Ecology Action (Willits, CA). She was a founding member of the Coastside Edible Garden Club in 2004. Loretta has a BA in Philosophy, a Doctorate in Chiropractic and was a professor at Life West Chiropractic College.
Marj Davis, Board Treasurer/Business Manager - Marj has been a resident of Pacifica for over 30 years. She shares a love of nature and the outdoors with stewardship of the environment. She returned to Pacifica Gardens leadership as the Treasurer in Fall 2019. Marj is an avid gardener and has extensive experience in non-profit management having served in the past as President and Treasurer of Pacifica's Environmental Family. Marj is also a Board Member at the Pacifica Resource Center, a member of Tree City Pacifica, and is a founding member of Pacifica Gardens. She has a BS in Business Management.
Fred Bové, Board Secretary - Fred is a lifelong gardener. During his tenure as Education Director at the SF Botanical Garden, he facilitated the first Permaculture Certification course in San Francisco and taught permaculture design classes at UC Berkeley Extension. Fred was a founding member of the Corona Heights Community Garden, and has volunteered at the Tenderloin Peoples’ Garden, Alemany Farm, and Double Rock Garden among others. Fred has been a UC Master Gardener since 2007.
Ann Mason, LCSW
Ann Mason, Board Member, Volunteer Coordinator and Education Program Manager - Ann was born and raised in the Bay Area and has lived in Pacifica, CA for over 15 years. She has been part of the Pacifica Gardens project from its inception and loves dirt. In the past, Ann has served on the Pacifica Gardens Board as the CEO, and is currently the garden's Volunteer Coordinator. She received her MSW from UC Berkeley and is a clinical social worker in private practice in San Mateo.
David Ruettiger, Board Member and Grounds Maintenance Manager - Dave comes from a farming family and is an experienced gardener. He is a longtime Pacifica Gardens core volunteer who joined the leadership team in 2021. He worked on the farm at Esalen Institute in Big Sur which included caring for the chickens, and more recently at The HEAL Project in Half Moon Bay. He has two masters degrees in Counseling and worked as a counselor for 17 years. He owned a costume shop for 25 years. Dave works tirelessly at the garden keeping the former soccer field mowed and weeded.
